Artecinema, an international film festival of documentaries regarding contemporary art, was established in 1996 with the objective of making various facets of contemporary art known to the public at large. This objective has been attained by presenting a selection of documentaries of important artists, architects and photographers who have worked during the last fifty years and includes interviews, filmed biographies and narratives based upon archive materials which has made it possible to bring the universe of visual arts to life on the screen.
Each year, Artecinema presents a selection of some thirty documentaries from the world over which have been painstakingly sought out directly from the directors and producers. The programme is divided into three sections: Art and related areas, Architecture and Photography.
The films, shown in the original languages with simultaneous interpretation provided via earphones, are alternated by round table encounters-debates featuring the directors, the artists and the producers. More than 6,000 spectators from all over Italy and abroad participate in the festival.
The Artecinema Festival has been conferred a medal of recognition by the President of the Republic of Italy and is conducted under the auspices of the Italian Senate, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Ministry of University Studies and Research, the Campania Region, the Province of Naples, the City of Naples, the Soprintendenza Speciale per il Polo Museale Napoletano (the Superintendence of the association of Naples Museums) the Superintendence for Architectural Heritage in Naples and the Province of Naples, the Campania Archival Superintendence, the University of “Federico II” in Naples and the International Foundation of Advanced Studies in Architecture. |
